December 12, 2024

2005 born alumnus Hayes Hundley has committed to play Division I hockey at the University of St. Thomas for the 2025-26 season.

The 6'3" defenseman is currently in his second season playing junior hockey after playing eight seasons with the AAA Blue Jackets. He will join former OBJ captain Cole Miller on the Tommies' blue line. This season, Hundley has tallied 1 goals, 3 points and a +3 rating in 21 games with the Fargo Force (USHL). In 2023-24, he played his rookie season with Johnstown Tomahawks (NAHL), recording a 3-8-11 line in 53 games while helping lead the team into the playoffs.

From 2015-2023, the Upper Arlington native was a core piece and team captain of the 2005 OBJ team. His career in the program included his participation in the 2018 Quebec International Pee-Wee Tournament and representing the Mid-American district at USA Hockey's Select 17 National Development Camp in 2023. In his final two seasons in Columbus, Hundley scored 22 goals and totaled 82 points in 132 games at the 16U and 18U levels.

A multi-sport athlete, he also starred for the Upper Arlington HS lacrosse team, helping lead the Golden Bears to a state championship in 2022. A 2-time all-state selection, he served as team captain and was named an all-American as a senior in 2023.

Currently a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), the University of St. Thomas is based out of St. Paul, Minnesota. The storied program is one of the oldest in college hockey and transitioned to the Division I level in 2021. This past summer, the Tommies announced their plans to join the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) in the 2026-27. The NCHC is considered one of the most dominant and competitive conferences in college hockey, producing six national champions since 2016.
